Lexington County Jail Roster

The jail roster of Lexington County, South Carolina is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is being held in the county detention center. The site LexingtonCourt.us compiles publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, by visiting the detention center in person, or by calling the facility's line. The roster is maintained by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, which is responsible for the Detention Center. The list is updated regularly and reflects individuals who are in custody at the time of viewing.

Search Current Inmates in Lexington Jail

There are several ways to find out if a person is in the Lexington County detention center.

Online Search

  1. Go to LexingtonCourt.us — the service allows you to search for publicly available information on court records and detainee data.
  2. Visit the Jail page on the Lexington County Sheriff's Department website. There you will find a link to the Detention Center inmate roster, where you can view the list or use the search field.
  3. Enter the person's full legal name (last name and first name) or booking number, if known.

If there is no separate search field on the page, try the browser's "Find on page" function (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) — this will help you quickly find the last name in a long list.

What You Need for the Search

  • The full legal name of the detained person
  • Booking number — if available

Records of juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry.

By Phone or In Person

Call the detention center directly or visit the Detention Center lobby during business hours. The operator can confirm whether a specific person is in custody.

For additional court information, you can also contact the Lexington County Clerk of Court or use the South Carolina Judicial Department Public Index, which provides access to state court cases.

Find Lexington Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time a person is officially admitted to the detention center. It is the first document that records the fact of detention.

During the booking procedure, the following data is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges
  • Arresting agency
  • Mugshot
  • Demographic information — gender, age, race

Access to these records is usually available through the online roster on the sheriff's department website. If a record disappears from the public list — for example, after a person's release — you have the right to request public records under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The request is submitted to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department in writing.

It is important to remember: if a person has been sentenced to serve time in a state facility, rather than the county detention center, their records should be searched through the SC Department of Corrections search system. This database does not include those held at the county level.

Search the Lexington Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field. Adding the first name narrows the results — this is useful when the last name is common. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling. One extra letter and the system won't find a match.
  • Try spelling variations if the last name may have alternative transliterations or hyphens.
  • Some systems allow partial searches — enter the first few letters of the last name and review the list manually.

Search by Booking Number

If you have the booking number, enter it — this is the most accurate method. The number uniquely identifies a specific record, even if there are several people with the same last name in the system.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a result does not always mean the person was not detained. Here's what you should do:

  1. Call the Detention Center at (803) 785-8230 and ask the operator.
  2. Check if the person has already been released — records of released individuals disappear from the current roster.
  3. If the person is under state supervision (probation or parole), use the SC Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services search.
  4. To check a criminal history at the state level, there is the SLED CATCH system — search by name in the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division database.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Lexington

The Lexington County Detention Center inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There may be a delay of several minutes to several hours between the actual admission of a person to the facility and the appearance of their record in the online system — depending on staff workload and time of day.

Key limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after arrest. If the arrest occurred recently, the record may not yet appear. Wait and repeat the search later or call.
  • Disappearance of records after release. The roster only displays those currently in custody. After release, transfer, or posting bail, the record is usually removed from the list.
  • Not an archive. The current jail roster is not a database of all past arrests. Access to historical records requires a written FOIA request to the sheriff's department.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a name or date of birth is entered incorrectly. If you are sure the person is in custody, but the search returns nothing — a phone call will resolve the issue faster.

For individuals already released from state facilities, the SC Department of Corrections publishes a separate list with filtering options by county and release date.
